A nursing assistant is someone who is paid to routinely provide nursing services that are delegated by registered nurses. According to the law, these individuals are required to register to the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. The NA Registry is a master list of all the nursing assistants who were able to comply with the requirements. Only those whose names are on the list and have an active status may work in a healthcare facility as a CNA.

nurse-aides-at-training-classesThe Registry does not only keep the names of its nursing assistants, but other relevant and important information about them as well. Because of this, the Registry must be kept informed of important information such as your name and address. If these two change any time after taking the exams, you will need to notify them by sending a letter to Pearson Vue. You will need to indicate your current name, address, contact number, license number, and social security number. You can also contact them by calling their help line and speaking with a representative at 1-888-204-6213.

If you wish to get a copy of your certificate with your new name on it, you will need to send in the request form to Pearson Vue. You will also need to include $15 paycheck for each processing your request. You will then send the forms to Peason Vue at PO Box 822749 Philadelphia, PA 19182-2749.

Certified nurse aides who come from another state and wish to transfer their license can do so by applying for reciprocity. This process also applies for those who were previously certified but did not renew their license. To qualify one would have to re-test. Testing will include taking both the  written and physical demonstration test. Those who pass in one attempt for both parts will be added to the Mississippi Nurse Aide Registry. Applicants only receive one try to pass or must retake a training course. In addition to these requirements one must pay the reciprocity fee or $26.00 and the testing fee of $101.00. You can contact an associate of the Mississippi State Department of Health at 601-364-1100 to learn more about the latest qualifications.

What is the Job of a Certified Nurse Aide in Mississippi?

Nursing assistant training programs are an excellent way to start out, as they will help you gain entry to the field of healthcare without much cost.  The training programs usually cost from $500-$2,800, which is very affordable compared to other medical or nursing courses.  The classes also are shorter which can only range from four to eight weeks.  You can be employed within a shorter period of time and there is always a chance for improvement by taking further education.  These health care workers are responsible for answering calls of patients, accompanying patients to their rooms, arranging bedding, feeding and serving their meals, taking vital signs, grooming and bathing, and mobilizing those in their care.  With this type of work, most nursing assistants tend to form a closer relationship with the patient than any other health personnel.

They will provide the textbooks as well as other study materials.

What Are the Current Requirements to Become Certified?

It is, however required by the state that all applicants for a certified nursing assistant training program be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma, pass the state and federal criminal background check, TB test and x-ray, and complete an application form.  The applicant should also be physically capable of working as a nursing assistant and must not have any physical impairment which would limit his capacity to do strenuous work. Once the applicant has met these conditions and have finished their instruction they can set a date to take the two-part NNAAP examination. Those who complete the tests successfully are included on the state registry for nurse aides. Click this link to find out the recent nursing assistant certification requirements in Mississippi.

How Much Does a CNA Earn in Mississippi?
