If you want to work in the field of health then you might want to think about becoming a certified nurse aide. Utah is one of the best places to work as a CNA. The demands for nurse aides in this state are very high. You will not have trouble getting a job once your name is on the UNAR.

college-student-with-momThere are two general ways to gain entry into the NAR. You can either complete a state-approved CNA training program and challenge the NNAAP exam or you can apply for reciprocity. However, there are also other ways to gain eligibility to take the NNAAP exam.

The most common way of getting into the NAR is by taking on the NNAAP exam. Before you can apply you must first enroll in a nursing aide training program that is approved by the state. Approved programs offer at least 80 hours of training. The hours are divided into 50 hours of classroom lectures and 100 hours of supervised clinical practice. Students are handled by a clinical instructor who will be with them throughout the training period.

Another way of establishing eligibility to apply for the NNAAP exam is by completing one semester of a nursing school. You could also simply just take units on the Fundamentals of Nursing. Registered nurses and licensed vocational nurses are also allowed to apply for the exam immediately.

The NNAAP exam in Utah is conducted by the Headmaster Testing Company. It consists of a 100-item multiple-choice knowledge test and a practical skills test. Candidates who are able to pass all the tests will get certified by the UNAR.

Your training will be valid for only one year after you complete a program. This means that you must take the NNAAP exam within that time. If you fail you will have another 2 attempts to pass. If you fail all your attempts or fail to pass within 1 year after your training you will be required to undergo retraining.

The process of Reciprocity is only offered to certified nurse aides from other states. This will allow them to transfer their certification and work in Utah without any need for further training. Applicants are required to have a current certification and a good standing with their state. They will be required to provide proof of education and training upon application.

You can find this city in the southwestern portion of the state. It is the county seat of Washington County. It is also included in the St. George, Utah, Metropolitan Statistical Area. You can also find this city a few miles northeast of Las Vegas. It is also about 303 miles south of Salt Lake City. According to the 2010 census, their total population was at 72,897. Nursing aides help nurses provide nursing and nursing-related care to patients living in different healthcare facilities. Nursing aides perform simple nursing tasks such as taking the vital signs as well as help patients with their daily activities such as taking a bath, going to the toilet, eating, dressing up, cleaning their immediate environment, and getting from one place to another.

college-students-using-laptop-at-schoolSince nursing aides work closely with the patients, it is important that all aspiring nursing aides learn how to properly take care of the patients. The certification exam consists of a 100-item knowledge test and a 5 random nursing skill evaluation. Candidates must pass both tests to get a CNA certification from the NAR. The payment for both tests is $90. Those who are not working as nursing aides upon taking the exam can request for reimbursement within 1 year after getting certified from their first employers.

Candidates can also request to have an ordinary pencil and paper test if they have trouble using a computer.

If a candidate is able to pass the certification exam, his or her name will be added to the state’s NAR. college-enrollment-fairIf you had never been certified before, then the first step that you must do is to look for a suitable CNA training program to enroll in. You can generally find a good program offered by a hospital, nursing home, vocational or technical college, private training institution, or government organization.

When you are enrolled, you will be spending a total of 80 hours for your training. There are some programs however, that offer more than the required 80 hours of training. If you want to be a nursing aide in California, you must be registered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. Completing a CNA training program is a crucial step in becoming a nursing assistant in California. This is one of the requirements to take the license exams. The state requires that its nurse aides must have a license to practice their profession.

nurse-aides-in-school-classTaking the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program examination is one of the most important steps in becoming a nursing aide. By passing this exam, a person will have his name entered into the Nurse Aide Registry and will be certified. According to the law, only certified nursing aides can work in a certified nursing facility in CA.

This exam consists of two parts; the first part is the knowledge test. Candidates will have a total of 2 hours to answer all 70 questions. All questions will be multiple-choice and will be taken from different concepts like activities of daily living, basic nursing skills, restorative skills, emotional and mental health needs, communication, rights and ethical behavior, and many more. Ten of those questions are pre-test items and will not be included in the total score.

The knowledge test also has an oral version for testers who have trouble in reading English. If they wish to take the oral exam, they must make a request when filling out the application forms. There will be a small additional charge of $15 for those choosing this option. Like the written test, this test is also composed of a 70 questions. The total questions however are divided into 60 multiple-choice items and 10 questions testing the ability of the tester to recognize common English words that are used by nursing aides.

The second part of the exam will test the tester’s competence in performing the basic nursing skills that nursing aides are allowed to perform. Every candidate will be placed in a common scenario where they will be asked to perform 5 nursing skills. The first skill will always be proper hand washing while the rest will be randomly selected from a set list. Testers will be given a maximum of 25 minutes to perform all the skills in front of the nursing aide evaluator. If a tester finishes ahead of time, he can go back and correct any mistakes he might have made.

In order to be certified, a nursing aide must pass both of the exams. Each individual will only be given 3 attempts to pass. If he or she still fails after the third attempt, he/she will have to complete another training program before reapplying.

A nursing aide is an individual who, for compensation, provides nursing and nursing-related care to patients in different nursing facilities like nursing homes and assisted living centers. These individuals work under the supervision of licensed nurses and members of the medical staff. Another type of nursing aide is the Home Health Aides. HHAs are also in demand in California and are one of the best ways to start a career in the field of health.

health-care-workers-at-job-eventThe first step in becoming a home health aide is to enroll in an approved HHA program. These programs are required by the CA Department of Public Health to offer 120 hours of training. These hours are divided into 65 hours of classroom lectures and 55 hours of supervised clinical training. Before the students handle any patient, they must first undergo and pass the Live Scan for criminal records.

If you wish to get the most of your training, you can simultaneously enroll in a CNA and an HHA program. Individuals who are enrolled in both programs are allowed to enroll in a 40-hour HHA program. These hours are divided equally into lectures and clinical practice in home health topics. It will serve as a supplemental program to the CNA program.

Unlike CNA certifications, HHA certifications are valid for 4 years. During this time, holders must complete 24 hours of in-service training or continuing education (12 hours per year).  Continuing Education Units must only be taken at providers approved by the CPDH, community or state colleges, adult education or regional occupation programs, through the American Red Cross.

If you are holding both a CNA and HHA certification, you can renew them at the same time. If you do, your total in-service/CE requirement is 48 hours.  You will need to maintain proper records of your in-service or CE hours. You must complete this form (http://www.cdph.ca.gov/pubsforms/forms/CtrldForms/CDPH283a.pdf) and send it along with the renewal forms (http://www.asisvcs.com/publications/pdf/070512.pdf) to the Aide and Technician Certification Section at:

You can generally find good programs being offered by numerous healthcare institutions like hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living centers, rehabilitation clinics, and long-term care centers.

Nursing assistant training comprises of 50 hours of classroom lessons and 100 hours of on-the-job training. Depending on the program you choose, it can take you about 8 to 24 weeks to complete your training. Here are some examples of the things that you will learn in the program:

•    Basic nursing care
•    Personal care
•    Nutrition
•    Medical terminologies
•    Human anatomy
•    Vital signs
•    Roles and responsibilities
•    Patients’ rights and independence
•    Infection control
•    Communication and Interpersonal Skills

After completing your training the next step is to apply for the certification exam. The certification exam in this state is conducted with the assistance of Pearson VUE at approved testing centers. All applications for the certification exam must be sent to the Regional Testing Center in your area.

The certification exam consists of a multiple-choice knowledge test and a skills evaluation. This exam will test all your knowledge and skills about being a nursing assistant. It was designed to test the competency of all aspiring nursing assistants. If you pass all the tests you will receive a CNA certificate from the ATCS.

The certificate will prove that you are a competent and certified nursing assistant. Employers will always verify applicant’s certification before hiring them. You are allowed to work in a state-approved nursing facility so long as your certificate remains active. To keep it active you must renew your certification every 2 years before it expires.
