Taking the CNA license exam is the final step to become a nursing assistant. The state does not allow its nurse aides to work without a certification or license. Before you can take the exam, you must comply with the different requirements like completing certified training course and passing the background check. You will not be able to take the examination without these two. Other requirements for the exams include submitting an ID photo, fingerprint card, 2 passport sized pictures and a copy of your transcripts. The training program can either be a nursing program or a college class. The great thing about enrolling in a nurse aide class is that it can be completed within a few months, depending on the program you enroll in.

The first step in becoming a nursing assistant is to complete a CNA training program. The training program should be approved by the state so that you will be allowed to apply for the state’s license exams once you complete your training. For a program to be approved, it must offer its students at least 75 hours of theoretical lesson and 100 hours of clinical exposure. The students must also have the chance to see what it is really like in the actual healthcare setting. This method will be a great way to develop a strong foundation for their nursing assistant career. It can take about 6 months, more or less, to complete your training, depending on the program you enroll in.

The most important steps in becoming a nursing assistant are the completion of a state-approved CNA course, passing the background checks, and taking the license exams. The training course and the background checks are both requirements to take the license exams. You cannot work in Florida if you do not have a nurse aide license. Aside from those mentioned, the applicant must be at least 18 years old and a holder of a high school diploma or an equivalent degree to become a nursing assistant.

You must pass all the tests in order to receive your license. You will receive a notice along with your certification 14 days after taking the license exams. The release of the results will depend if you have completely submitted all the required documents during your application. The submission of the transcript of records is one of the common factors that prolong the release of the results.

If you are a current holder of a CNA license issued from a different state, you will no longer be required to take the license exams in Florida. You can apply for reciprocity by submitting a copy of your certification, the results of your exams, as well as the results for the criminal background checks. For more information about receiving your certification or training requirements you can contact the Florida Nursing Assistant Registry by calling (850) 245-4125.
