If you want to become a nursing assistant, it will benefit you to know what the different requirements are. Among the different requirements, the two things that you must secure is the completion of a training program and passing the background checks. Without these two, you will not be able to apply and take the license exams. You cannot work in this state for more than 4 months as a nursing assistant if you do not have a CNA license.
The training programs in this state can be completed within 2 to 6 months. They are located and are offered all over the state. You can find them in colleges, high schools, nursing homes, and other institutions like community training centers. For the background checks, having records that involve theft or drugs can be used in grounds for the rejection of your application. The background checks will be done in both federal and state levels.
The examination includes two parts. These are a written test and a skills test. Both parts must be successfully passed in three attempts. Those who pass become certified and placed on the state registry for nurse aides. Entry here is valid for two years. You will be notified upon the arrival of your registry expiration. To remain in good standing you will need to submit verification of time spent on the job. Currently it is required that you work at least for eight hours as a nursing assistant every two years to meet the work verification requirement.
Nursing assistants from other states are also allowed to work in Georgia. They will only be allowed if they apply for reciprocity. When they are applying, they must have an active license and a good relationship with their state. Those who are applying for reciprocity are also subjected to the background checks.
