nurse-aide-in-alaskaNursing assistants are usually needed in order to feed, bath, dress, transfer patients, arrange the bedding, and assist in the personal grooming of patients who cannot do these on their own.  They work under the guidance and supervision of either a registered nurse or a licensed physician which oversees a nursing facility of other medical institutions. Alaska had projected some growth in the employment opportunities for nursing assistants as the population growth continues and there is more and more demand for health services outside of hospitals.  Expenses in hospitals are often not practical for those who need long-term personal care and so more and more people are being entered into nursing homes for their needs.

The average annual job opening for nursing assistants is about 2,000 and so one can expect to find work waiting for him once he finishes the training program and pass the competency exam for nursing assistants.  But one also needs to study his options first before going to Alaska to find work.  The state suggests that you do some research on the internet first and confirm your employment through phone or email before coming directly to the state.  There are some scams which are rampant in the internet which promotes employment in Alaska although they are not really connected with any institution there at all.  You may end up wasting a lot of effort and time aside from money if you go straight there when you do not have any secure employment.

Living in Alaska can be pretty expensive as most of the places can only be accessed by plane or ship.  So you really need to study your options first.  You may need to bring with you several thousand dollars in spending money as you look for work.  You may need to check the Anchorage News or the Juneau Empire to know about available job openings first.

This exam is divided into two parts – the written knowledge test and the clinical skills test. Both exams are conducted on the same day so you must plan accordingly. Passing all the tests will get you certified by the Aide and Technician Certification Section of the L&C Program. A certification will prove to your potential employers that you are a competent nurse aide.

Failing in one test means a failed certification exam. Each candidate is given only 3 attempts to pass. Since your training is only valid for 2 years after you complete a program, you must use those attempts within that time. If you fail to pass within 3 attempts or within 2 years, you will be required to undergo retraining.

If you are unhappy with the results of the exam, you are allowed to file for grievance. All grievances are followed-up by the CDPH within 30 days of receiving the request. If a fault is found made by the evaluator, CDPH, or Pearson VUE, you will be allowed to retest for free. All grievances must be handwritten by the complainant.

Applicants who get approved by the CDPH will no longer be required to take an examination to get certified by the ATCS.

CNA certifications are only valid for 24 months. To keep your eligibility to work as a nursing assistant, you must renew your certification before it expires. An expired certification cannot be renewed. However, it can be reactivated by taking a competency evaluation exam. It begins by entering a CNA training course and ends with you passing the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program examination.

classroom-of-studentsCertified nurse aide training courses in California offer a minimum of 150 hours of training, which is longer than most courses. Like every other course their curriculum is divided into classroom lessons and supervised clinical practice. The Health Industry always has jobs ready. As the number of the elderly in the population increases, so does the demand for health care providers. One of the most practical ways of entering this line of work is to become a certified nurse aide.

college-student-blonde-girl-at-deskOne reason that you should consider becoming a nurse aide is that this profession is one of the most in demand. The demand for nurse aides in California is currently higher than that nation’s average. Certified nurse aides in this state also get some of the highest salaries. Even as a newly certified nurse aide you can make an annual salary from $20,000 to $38,000 depending on where you work.

Compared to other professions, you can start working as a nurse aide in a matter of a few weeks. To work as a nurse aide, all you have to do is to get certified by passing the state’s certification exam. To qualify for the exam you must complete a 150-hour CNA training course that is approved by the state’s Department of Public Health. Your training will consist of both classroom instructions and on-the-job training.

Even as a student, you will get to experience what it is like in an actual clinical setting and what it feels like to work as a nurse aide. The experience that you get even from your training can be used as a stepping stone if ever you want to aim for a higher degree.

Another thing that adds to the practicality of becoming a nurse aide is that you can enroll in a home health aide training program at the same time. Since you are already enrolled in a 150-hour CNA course, you will only be required to enroll in a 40-hour HHA program. Once you complete the program, you will get certified as a HHA.

The certification exam consists of a multiple-choice knowledge exam and a practical skills evaluation. Both exams must be passed in order to get certified. If you fail, you will be given two other chances to pass within 2 years of completing your training.

CNA and HHA certifications are required to be renewed every 2 years to maintain your eligibility to work in a certified nursing facility. Part of the requirement is to complete a number of in-service training hours or continuing education. This requirement will further your knowledge and skills and will help you become better at what you do.
