A nursing aide can be defined as a person who is trained to assist nurses in providing nursing and nursing-related care to patients who are in hospitals, long-term care centers, nursing homes, clinics, and other healthcare settings.
They are currently one of the most in demand healthcare providers in Virginia. Their demand has been increasing through the years. This increase is thought to continue up until the end of the decade. What makes this profession a great way to start a career in healthcare? Well, for one thing, you won’t have to spend years training to become one. This also means that you won’t pay as much.
CNA training programs are offered throughout the state. Some training institutions offer not just one, but multiple-classes which can make thing a lot easier for those who have busy schedules. To make sure that your training will meet federal and state standards, you must choose a program that’s approved by the state’s Board of Nursing.
After completing a training program, you will then become eligible to apply for the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Exam. All student nursing aide candidates are required to take this exam before they can work in a state-certified healthcare facility.
The NNAAP exam consists of a multiple-choice knowledge test and a skills evaluation exam. Both tests are taken on the same day at a Regional Testing Center. If a candidate is able to pass both tests, then he or she will receive a CNA certificate within a few days after passing.
In case you fail a test, you can immediately apply and retake the exam that you failed. The great thing about taking the NNAAP exam in this state is that there is no limit on how many tries you can take. However, you must be able to pass both tests within 2 years after taking it for the first time. If you still fail to get certified within that time, then you’ll have to undergo retraining before you can reapply once more.

Taking the license exams is a necessary step since it is one way for you to get your name entered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. The only people who are allowed to work as a CNA even if their names are not on the registry are the active RNs from the state. To get your name entered in the registry, you will have to pass both the written and the skills demonstration exams. RNs from other states will have to be checked by the registry before they can work as a nursing assistant. This rule also applies for those certified nursing assistants that come from other states. They are required to apply for reciprocity before they will be allowed to work in a nursing home. For more information, please visit this site: http://www.idph.state.il.us/nar/cnafacts.htm.
For those who are already a holder of a CNA license from another state, they must still take this exam. If their license is still in good standing they will no longer be required to undergo retraining in this state. They will only need to provide a copy of their license or records that will serve as proof of their training and experience. In these cases, they must pass the exams within 24 months from the submission of their applications to Pearson VUE. For more information, you can contact Pearson VUE at (888) 274-5050 or visit their website at www.pearsonvue.com.
