Completing an approved training program is a requirement to qualify for the NNAAP exams. This exam is the final challenge that one must pass to become a nursing assistant. It consists of a written/oral test and a skills evaluation exam. If a candidate passes both tests, then his name will be added to the Nurse Aide Registry.

The NAR is a master list of all individuals who are allowed to work as full-time nursing assistants. CNAs in the state of Ohio are known as State-tested nursing aides or STNAs. In order to become one, you will need to undergo a state-approved program and pass the license exams. The next step is to pass both the written and the skills portion of the evaluation exam. Even if the individual is not on the Registry, a licensed long-term care facility may still hire him as a nursing aide if he is competent in providing nursing aide care.

An important step in becoming a nursing assistant is the completion of a CNA training program that is approved by the state. These programs can be completed once you have at least 80 hours of both lectures and skills training. You have the option to choose whether you will enroll in community colleges, high schools, or healthcare centers.
