The applications for this exam are now done online by going to https://i7lp.integral7.com. Nursing graduates and nursing assistant students who completed their training in a different state are also allowed to apply for the exam. Since this state does not offer reciprocity, CNAs from other states who want to work in N.C. will also have to take the exam.

The state’s Department of Health and Human Services has contracted Pearson VUE to assist in the conducting, scoring, and releasing of the exam results. You will only be allowed to take the exam at their approved testing sites. Candidates will have the option of choosing to do in-facility testing or take the exam at regional testing sites. When scheduling for your exam date, be sure to make your reservations at least 16 days from your chosen exam date.

The NNAAP exam consists of a written/oral test and a clinical skills test. If you pass both of them within 3 attempts or within 2 years from the completion of your training, your name will be entered on the Nurse Aide I Registry and you will become certified as a nursing assistant I.

CNA I certifications are only valid for 2 years. Its expiration date usually falls on the same day as your name was entered in the registry. If you wish to continue your eligibility for employment as a nursing assistant, you must renew it. The only requirement for renewal is that you provide proof of your performing quality work. Quality work can only be considered if you were paid while doing nursing care, you were supervised by a registered nurse while you were working, and the amount of work you did reach at least 8 hours.
