Becoming a nursing assistant in the state of Minnesota is one of the best ways for you to enter the medical field. As a nursing assistant you get to experience the best the medical industry has to offer. You get to take care of the patients using the basic nursing skills while under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Most aspiring nurse aides enroll in a training course to gain the necessary experience before trying to take the competency examination. Some choose to challenge the exam without training. Whichever method you select you will still need to pass both portions of the test in order to become officially certified and included on the state registry.
In order to be eligible for work as a nursing assistant in a care facility for longer than 4 months, your name must be on the Registry. Only those who have taken a training program are eligible to work before being licensed. Even if you were able to apply for the Registry before, you have to meet some requirements in order to keep your name on the list.
To be eligible for recertification, you must have worked for a t least 8 hours as a paid nursing assistant within 24 months. While on duty, you must have been under the supervision of a registered nurse. The state will not consider orientation and training hours as working hours. If you are working in a healthcare facility, other than those that are approved by the state, you must call the Registry to see if your current work is enough to keep you on the Registry. The facility where you work must send the Registry an update form and a job description of what you do.
It normally takes 30 working days for the processing to get one. Remember that the state does not charge any processing fee to get on the Registry. For more information, please call the Registry at (651) 215-8705 or email at ealth.FPC-NAR@state.mn.us.
