For those of you who aim to become nurse aides, you will need to get certified. The certification process in Arizona will involve you completing an approved CNA class, pass the competency exams, and undergo the national background checks for criminal records. There are other requirements that must also be met, but most of them will only take a few hours to complete.
Training to become a nurse aide in Arizona can be accomplished within several weeks. Training programs are required by the state to last at least 120 hours, which must include theoretical instructions and supervised clinical practice. These programs will teach you the basic health care procedures such as promoting safety, maintaining asepsis, vital signs taking, and assisting in daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, exercising, ambulating, and many more. Once you complete at least 16 hours of classroom instructions, you will then go to the clinical area to practice what you have learned.
After completing your training, you may now submit your application for the NNAAP exams and for the NAR. The State of Arizona has asked the help of Headmaster to assist in conducting, scoring, and releasing the exam results. You can download a copy of the application forms by going to www.hdmaster.com. If you have troubles completing your application, you can ask your program instructor to help or call the AZBN at (602) 771-7800. Your application must be sent to Headmaster at:

Headmaster LLP
P.O. Box 6609
(800) 393-8664
Fax: (406) 442-3357
Email: hdmaster@hdmaster.com
Once you submit your application, along with the other requirements, you will receive through email confirmation and information regarding your exams. If you don’t receive one within 5 business days, please contact the Headmaster immediately. You can also visit their site to confirm your application status.
The NNAAP exam is divided into two parts, a written/oral exam and a manual skills evaluation. You must pass both tests within 24 months to get into the Nurse Aide Registry. If you fail, you can immediately reapply and reschedule for the exams. Candidates are given unlimited attempts to pass within the two year period after completing their training.
After you get the results of the exams, which can take 3 to 5 days, your next step is to submit an application form to the state’s Board of Nursing. Once they receive your application, they will mail you a fingerprint card, which you must complete and mail back for the criminal background checks. You won’t get certified unless you pass the checks. The FBI can take 4 to 6 months to return the results. For more information, please visit www.azbn.gov
