The first step in becoming a nursing aide is to pass a nursing assistant training program. The training program must be state-approved. Once you take finish, you can apply for the state exams. During your application, you will be subjected to a small background check and you must show proof of your training and experience.
Those who were able to complete a state-approved CNA training program and pass the competency evaluation exams are able to work as a nursing assistant in the state of Minnesota. All they have to do is to send in their documents to the NAR so that their names can be added to the list. This process may take up to 4 months to process.
The healthcare facility should not assume that the individual is already on the Registry just because he is able to show that he was able to pass the competency license exams conducted by Pearson Vue. For a person to be in the Registry, he/she should also pass the background checks that are done at Federal and State levels. There is currently no processing fee in the state of MN.
In order to remain in the Registry, you must have worked for at least 8 hours as a paid nursing assistant within 24 consecutive months. The work must take place a licensed facility while under the supervision of a licensed nurse. You can speak with a representative of the Nurse Aide Registry by calling toll free at 1-800-397-6124 from 9-3 PM, Mon-Fri. If you are currently certified in another state and have good standing you may qualify to apply for reciprocity and transfer your certification. To do so you will need to fill out the Interstate Endorsement Form and have a current license and have worked at least 8 hours in the previous 24 months. Once approved you will be added to the state registry
