Becoming an nursing aide in Minnesota is not so hard if you know the requirements. One of the prerequisites is that you enroll and finish CNA classes that provides the appropriate amount of hourly instruction and proper curriculum.
The program will have to be approved by the state for you to be eligible to take the state exams. Once you pass the training program, you can then apply for the license examinations. You will need to complete a state-approved training program and take the exams within two years. You can get an application for the examination by contacting Pearson VUE customer service at (800) 274-0504. For additional help you can contact the registry by email at: health.FPC-NAR@state.mn.us or through their phone line at (651) 215-8705 for additional information. After you have taken the tests, you should receive notification in the mail within 5 to 7 business days.
One of the tasks of the nurse aide registry is to maintain current information on its nursing assistants. If you have changed any important information about you, such as your name or address, you are required to inform the Registry. When changing important information, you will need to fill out and submit the NAR Update Form, which can be downloaded at http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/fpc/profinfo/narinfo/24moupdate2.pdf. When you send in your Update Form, you will need to include your social security number and current address. If you are changing your address, you may simply call the Registry directly during working hours at (651) 215-8705. Their toll-free number for the Greater Minnesota is 1-800-397-6124.
The Registry does not keep any copies of nurse aide certifications. You can only request a copy of your certificate from the testing center if you have taken the test within 24 months. The testing center that is in charge of this state is Pearson Vue. Once certified your name will remain on the state registry for 24 months, and will need to be renewed before that time expires. You will generally receive a renewal notice three months prior to the expiration of your registry status. Renewal is achieved by showing work verification of at least 8 hours for a licensed healthcare provider.
