To be a CNA in the state of New Mexico, you must be able to pass the license exams. Before you are allowed to apply for the exams, you should finish a CNA training program that is approved by the state. A part of the reciprocity process is the background check for criminal records, the applicant must not have any records that may disqualify him from becoming a nurse aide in the state of New Mexico. The Disqualifying convictions include:
• Homicide
• Trafficking or using of controlled or illegal substances
• Kidnapping, false imprisonment, or aggravated battery
• Rape, incest, sexual contracts and other sexual felonies
• Neglect or abuse of an adult
• Crimes that involve child neglect or abuse
• Theft, extortion, fraud, forgery, embezzlement, or misappropriation of a resident’s property.
Since it will take a few weeks to complete the background check, the applicant will be given a temporary license that is valid for 3-4 weeks.
