There are a few requirements that must be met for you to be able to become a nursing assistant. One of the requirements is that you must pass the background check of both the federal and the state. Another requirement is that you should be able to complete a state approved CNA training program.
The classes that teach nurse aide fundamentals are required to provide 75 hours total of clinical practice and classroom instruction. Generally classes are supervised by a registered nurse and are split into hands-on clinical experience and state and federal theoretical instruction. During your clinical instruction you will be taught at least 16 hours of 25 different nursing related skills.
upon completion of your course requirement you can apply to take the license exams. The exams consist of both a manual skills demonstration and a written test. To pass you will need to demonstrate 5 of the skills you learned during your training. In addition you will need to score at least a 70% on your written exam. Those who are successful are notified and have their name added to the nurse aide registry. Once added to the list your name is there for 24 months and is renewed by sending in verification of being employed for 8 hours minimum as a nursing assistant for each 24 month period.
