The requirements for becoming a nursing aide in Minnesota are the same as other states. You are required to complete a state-approved nursing assistant training program first. You will spend a number of hours in lectures and skills training.
The Federal government has regulated the requirements for training and testing for the state of Minnesota. State-approved programs are required to offer 75 hours of training, which will already include all the necessary coursework. There are 2 approved curriculum that a program may use. One is the curriculum that was developed by the American Red Cross, while the other was developed by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.
After the completing your CNA classes, you can apply for the state exams to get your license. You should only take the exams at approved testing centers or sites. To help the candidates prepare of the exams, they will be given a handbook which will contain an overview of the tests and the skills that may come out of the 2nd part of the exams. Once you pass the exams, you will be certified to work in health care facilities. You should receive notification of your test results within 5 to 7 business days. After passing you are included on the registry database that employers use to check your certification status. You remain there for a period of 2 years and will be sent a notification before your renewal period is up. To renew you will need to submit verification from your employers of having worked at least eight hours over the previous 2 year period.
