Still seeking for a job? Well, there are plenty of jobs available in the field of healthcare. You can start a wonderful career as a health care provider, without spending too much time on training, by becoming a certified nursing aide. CNAs are entry-level professionals who work under the supervision of licensed nurses. They can be found in various health care facilities throughout the United States.

nursing-graduates-in-groupYou must successfully complete a state-approved Nursing Aide Training Program or NATP to become a nursing aide. NATPs are there to equip nursing aide candidates with the proper knowledge and skills needed to meet the individual needs of the patients. They will also help candidates prepare for the different scenarios that they might find themselves in once they become full-time nurse aides.

You must meet a certain number of requirements to enroll in a program. For starters you will want to submit two forms of identifying documents, such as a drivers license, government issued I.D, or passport. In addition you will need to undergo a state and federal background check. You are also required to get a physical exam completed and send in your TB card, and immunization records. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and in most cases schools require a high school diploma or GED.

Nursing aide training consists of classroom lectures and supervised hands-on training. Both parts of the training programs are done at the same time. All training programs are required to offer a minimum of 80 hours of instructions. While in the clinical area, students must be under the constant supervision of a CNA instructor. No student may perform any procedure nor demonstrate any nursing skill without the knowledge or presence of the instructor.

CNA instructors are registered nurses with at least two (2) years of experience in providing nursing care. One of those years must have been spent working in a long-term care facility. A licensed practical nurse can work as an Assistant Instructor and teach 49% of the total training hours. For more information, please follow this link: http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/nurse_aide_training_program/7685/instructor’s_corner/507873.

After you complete your training, you will have 24 months to apply and pass the NNAAP exams to get your license. Federal and State laws require all long-term nursing aides to have licenses. The NNAAP exam consists of a 2-hour written test and a 30-minute manual skills demonstration. Both tests are taken on the same day at a Regional Testing Site or a certified training facility. Each candidate is given a maximum of three attempts to pass.

You must have your license before you are allowed to work in a health care institution as a nursing assistant. To find a nearby testing location for the certification exams you can contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-795-2350. For more information about nurse aide registrations you can call the Pennsylvania Department of Health at 800-852-0518, or the local phone number of 717-787-1816.

Licensed nurses, graduate nurses, and nursing students who enrolled in a nursing or practical nursing school can skip training requirements and immediately apply for the NNAAP exams if they can provide proof of their training. However, NNAAP exam applicants who go through this route are only given one chance to pass. They will be required to enroll in an NATP if they fail even one part.

The Department of Health has asked Pearson VUE to help monitor and maintain the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. The NAR contains all the names of individuals who have met the federal and state training and testing requirements. Employers are required to verify each applicant’s license by going to www.pulseportal.com to check if their credentials are valid. A CNA can also use the website to check their current certification status.
