The course is designed to give you theoretical knowledge of health care procedures and hands-on experience so you are ready for the job. Once you are finished with the class you will want to take the license exams.

The competency exams are often provided in the same facility you took your training. However, if not you can call the Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation Services also known as (NACES) locally at (512) 467-0615 or toll free at 1-800-444-5178 to find a examination facility. The test has a written multiple choice component and a manual proficiency demonstration part. You must pas both parts to qualify for certification. You are allowed three tries to complete both portions successfully. Once you have taken the certification exam you can contact 1-800-452-3934 to determine your license status. Those who pass the test are placed on the registry for a 24 month period and are eligible to work in nursing homes and long term health facilities as a nursing assistant.

If you are already certified in another state, then you can just apply for reciprocity. To do you will need to complete and submit the required DADS documentation. You can learn more about nurse aide reciprocity in Texas by contacting DADs services at 512-438-5495.
