Before you are allowed to work in a healthcare facility as a nursing assistant, you must be able to comply with the requirements of the state. The most basic requirement that you must be able to meet is the completion of a CNA training program. It is very important that when you handle any patient, you should know what you are doing and training will provide you with hands-on skills practice. You can only finish the program if you have at least 30 hours of clinical experience and a total of 75 hours of instruction in nurse aide skills. If you enroll in a state-approved program and complete it, you will become eligible to apply for the license exams.
By passing the license exams, your name will automatically be entered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. The state does not allow any nursing assistant to practice in any healthcare facility if their name is not in the registry. To get your name entered, you have to pass both the written and the skills evaluation, which will be done in front of a nurse aide evaluator. Once your name is in the registry, you will need to maintain that status in order to be eligible to work in the state. It will only be removed there if you have failed to work for at least 8 hours with pay within 24 consecutive months.
