To become a CNA in this state you must undergo at least 75 hours of training when you enroll in a state licensed training program. Your training hours will be divided into 45 hours of classroom instruction and 30 hours of clinical rotations. Before you are to proceed into your clinical rotations, you must first learn all the basics first.
As a nursing aide student, you will be taught different concepts like mental health, infection control, rehabilitation, communication skills, and the medical terms. You will also be trained on the basic nursing skills like proper hand washing, monitoring vital signs, making progress reports, and assist in daily activities such as feeding, dressing, bathing, exercising, ambulating, and others. In total the state requires you to have at least 75 hours of lectures and 30 hours of clinical experience for you to pass the program.
Once you are though with the training, you can then apply for the license exams. The most important requirement when applying is being able to submit the results for your federal and state background checks. According to the rules, the applicant will not be able to take the tests if he/she is not able to pass the checks for criminal records. The exams will cost you about $45 and will be composed of two parts. These are a demonstration or manual skills test and a written test. After successfully completing both parts within a total of three attempts you will become certified and included on the online registry database.
