The requirements for becoming a nursing assistant in the State of Connecticut are the following. You must complete one of the training programs available in Connecticut and have at least 100 hours’ worth of lectures on basic nurse skills and clinical duty experience of at least 16 hours. You can then proceed and take the examination for you to become a certified nursing assistant in Connecticut.
Among the different prerequisites to qualify to take the license exams, the most important of them are the completion of a CNA class and passing the background checks. Having records such as negligence or abuse can greatly affect your application. LPNs, RNs, and other graduates from nursing courses can also apply for the nurse aide license exam. For more information about the license exams, you can visit www.prometric.com.
Taking on the license exams is the final step in becoming a nurse aide. Once you pass the license exams, your name will be entered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. To become registered, you must pass all the tests in the license exams conducted by Prometric. The first part of the license exams is the written exam. You can also have an oral exam instead of a written exam if you send in a letter of request during your application. In the written exam, you will be given 90 minutes to answer all of the 60 multiple-choice questions. The questions will focus about the different roles of the nurse aide, the promotion of functioning and health of the resident, and the promotion of their safety. The second part is the skills evaluation. You will be tested on the different nursing related proficiencies that were taught to you during your training. Out of the 25 different competency skills, you will only be tested on 5 randomly selected skills. There will be a Nurse Aide Evaluator present when you perform these skills to see if you perform the checkpoints for each skill. To pass this exam, you must perform all the skills satisfactorily.
