When looking for a program to enroll in, just remember to choose one that is approved by the state’s Board of Nursing.
CNA Training
As a nurse aide student, you will be spending your time in both the classroom for your lectures and in the clinical area for your practical training. While you are in the clinical area, you will be placed under the supervision of a clinical instructor. Qualified clinical instructors are registered nurses with at least 2 years of nursing experiences working in a long-term care facility. Depending on the program you choose, your training period could last from about 2 to 6 months.
Examples of the concepts that are taught in a program include, but are not limited, to the following:
– Vital Signs
– Patient’s Rights
– Safety and Emergency Care
– Body Mechanics
– Medical and Surgical Asepsis
– Basic Nursing Care
– Personal Care
– Nutrition
– Human Anatomy
– Communication Techniques
– Weights and Measurements
Getting a CNA Certification
Completing an approved training program will make you eligible to apply for the NNAAP exam. This exam is conducted by the NACES with the help of Pearson VUE. It consists of a multiple-choice written (or oral) knowledge test and a clinical skills exam. Candidates are required to pass both tests to get into the Nurse Aide Registry.
The Virginia Nurse Aide Registry contains all the names of the persons who were able to meet the federal and state’s training and testing requirements. Only nurse aides whose names are in the NAR are allowed to work in Virginia. Employers must verify each applicant’s certification before hiring them.
