There are a number of requirements that you need to comply with first before you can become a CNA in the state of Iowa. Among them the most important is to get your name entered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. To do so, you will have to pass all the tests in the license exams.
Before you are allowed to take the exams, there are also a number of prerequisites that must be complied with. First of all, to become eligible to apply for the exams, you will need to enroll in and complete a state-approved training course. These courses are offered by colleges, nursing homes, and other training institutions. They are required by the state to offer a minimum of 75 hours of training. Your training will be dived into 45 hours of classroom instructions and 30 hours of clinical duties.
After you complete your training, the next step that you will need to do is to pass the federal and state background checks. These checks for criminal records are done in order to protect the interest of the patients/residents. You will not be allowed to proceed and take the exams if you were not able to pass this. When you go to take the exams you’ll find that they are split into two parts. These are a written multiple choice test and a demonstration exams. You must pass both portions to become certified, listed in the online database with active status, and eligible to be hired. To learn more or ask specific questions you can contact the Iowa Direct Care Worker Registry at 1-866-876-1997 or 515-281-4077.
