If you are considering becoming a nursing assistant in Georgia, it is best if you know what the different requirements are so you can be prepared and not waste time. The first requirement on the list is to enroll in a NATP. When you are selecting a program, you should make sure that the program is approved by the Georgia Medical Care Foundation or the GMCF. These programs are offered by colleges, nursing homes, technical colleges, and other institutions. It is very important that the CNAs the graduate from these programs are well equipped to handle different healthcare settings and meet the different requirements of the Medicaid medical facilities.
Completing a training program makes you eligible to apply for the license exams. The license exams for this state are composed of written/oral and a skills demonstration exam. When you pass the license exam, your name will be entered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. Your name should still be in the state’s registry if you want to find work as a nursing assistant.
If you are already working as a nursing assistant in a nursing facility, you are required to complete a program and pass the license exams within 4 months from the start of your work. The state does not allow a nursing facility to let an individual work for more than 4 months without the proper training and requirements.
Reciprocity is offered to certified nurse aides in good standing from other states. To transfer one must currently be listed on the registry from their home state and submit a reciprocity form. forms can be downloaded from the state website at www.mmis.georgia.gov.
