One of the most important prerequisites is the completion of a CNA training program that is approved by the state. The training programs in Connecticut are offered by different institutions that both private and public. Depending on the program you enroll in, you can complete your training within a matter of 6 months.
To finish your training, you must have at least 100 hours of training which will be divided into lectures and skills training. As a nursing assistant student, you will be taught in different concepts that were defined by both the federal and the state regulations. You will also be taught in 25 different competency skills, where 5 of them will be tested during your license exams. According to the rules of the state, you must have 16 hours of clinical training. Some of the skills necessary for the job are: communication skills, infection control, resident’s rights, safety procedures, resident’s independence, and different emergency procedures before you are able to handle actual patients. Gaining clinical exposure is thought to provide the students a good foundation for their future career in healthcare.
Once you finish your training you will want to take the license exam within 2 years. To find out more about how you can schedule a date to take the certification exam or get answers to your questions you can contact Prometric at 866-499-7485.
