If you want to become a nursing assistant, you must complete a CNA training course first. The program should provide 75 hours of theoretical education, including 16 hours of clinical proficiency skills instruction, and be approved by the state. Programs should also offer instruction in at least 25 basic nursing skills in its curriculum. When you finish a program, you will have up to 2 years to take the competency exams.
You must pass the certification exams before you can be included on the nurse aide registry. The test is given in two parts. One is a written test in which you must score 70% or better to pass. The other is a manual proficiency test in which you must demonstrate five skills. After you have completed your testing successfully you will be eligible to work and listed on the registry for 2 years.
