As the population in the United States grows, the need for healthcare providers also grows. The constant grow in the health industry has made a lot of people wanting to become health care providers. One of the best ways to jump start a career in the field of health is to train and become a nurse aide.
There are different ways that you can take on the path of becoming a nurse aide. People with different educational attainments can become one if they know what to do. You can complete a 150-hour CDPH-approved NATP, gain military education as a medic, or attend/complete a nursing education program.
Following any of those 3 routes will make you eligible to challenge the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Examination or the NNAAP exam. This exam consists of a multiple-choice knowledge test and a practical skills evaluation. Passing all the tests will get you certified by the Aide and Technician Certification Section. According to the Nursing Home Reform Act, which is now part of the OBRA of ’87, all nurse aides must be certified to work in a state-approved nursing facility or a long-term care center.
The state of California has asked Pearson VUE to help assist in scheduling, conducting, scoring, and release the results of the NNAAP exam. If you visit their website at www.pearsonvue.com you can download the application packets. You can also get a copy of the Candidate Handbook, which is the most detailed resource for the NNAAP exam.
Another way of getting certified in California is by applying for reciprocity. Reciprocity is only for individuals who are already certified nurse aides but are listed in another state. If they wish to work in the state, they must first apply through this route. It is important that they still have an active certification and a clean record when they apply. Applicants will be asked to provide proof of education and training, as well as pass the national background check for criminal records. Applicants who have been certified for more than 2 years are required to provide proof of employment as a nurse aide within the last 2 years.
Woodlake is still part of Tulare County. As of the census of 2010, their population has now reached up to 7,279. They have a total area of 2.8 square miles and a population density of 2,632.5/sq miles.
