The North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry is a registry of all the individuals who were able to meet both the state and federal government’s training and testing requirements to perform tasks as a nursing aide I. According to federal law, all nursing aides who work in a nursing home must be listed on that registry. This will include RNs, LPNs, nursing aides II, and medication aides.
To become a nursing aide I, you must first complete a state-certified nursing aide I training course and pass its competency training. If you have a nursing license, you can directly apply to get into the registry and start to work as one, provided that you do not have any record of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of a patient’s property.
The approved training programs in this state are required to offer its students no less than 75 hours of training. These programs are offered at community colleges, healthcare facilities, such as nursing homes and hospitals, and even private companies. Your training will consist of lectures, laboratory works, and clinical practice. Aside from completing the required number of training hours, you will have to pass the final exam to graduate from your training.
After completing your training, your next is to take the competency exam. This exam will test your knowledge and skills. To get into the registry, you must pass all the tests. If you fail, you will have to retake the exam. You will only be given three attempts and two years from the completion of your training to pass. If you fail after the third attempt, you need to undergo retraining before you can take the exams again.
If you have any questions regarding the competency exam, feel free to call Pearson VUE at (888) 204-6207 during working hours, which is from 8 in the morning up to 5 in the afternoon. You can also send them an email at pearsonvuecustomerservice@pearson.com
