The completion of a CNA training program is one of the most important steps in becoming one. You should be well educated and trained in both knowledge and skills before you are allowed to handle any patient. Training will provide you with hands-on experience in a setting similar to that found in a long-term care center. Generally you will learn the proper procedures required for the job including many commonly used tasks. If you are able to graduate from a state-certified program, you will be able to apply for the license exams.
Taking on the exams is a must step since it will be the only way for you to get your name in the Registry for Nurse Aides. The Registry is a computerized list of all the nursing aides who have complied with the state’s requirements and are eligible to work in their preferred healthcare facility. To get your name in there, you must be able to pass all the tests in the final exams. Once your name is entered, you will need to maintain that status. Keep in mind that like many other states, the nurse aide licenses here need to be renewed every two years. To be eligible for renewal, you must have worked for at least 8 hours with pay in the span of 24 months. Students who have previously been certified in another state of completed college level instruction and have sufficient credits in nursing subjects may be able to apply for reciprocity.
