With the increase in the population and the decrease in the number of nurses each year, the health care institutions turn to seek the aide of nursing aides. There are two types of programs that the people can choose depending on where they wish to work.

The completion of a nursing assistant training program is one of the requirements to become a nursing assistant in the state of New Jersey. These training programs are offered by different institutions like long-term care facilities, private vocational schools, community colleges, county vocational schools and even high schools.

To ensure that the students get a good quality education and training to become a nursing assistant, the state’s Department of Health has created an approved curriculum that contains the modules that must be included in the training. To ensure that the curriculum is followed by the training facility, the facilities must get approval from the Certification Program before they take on any students. The will need to submit a lesson plan in order to start the approval process. The approval process will vary depending on what type of facility is applying.

For example, training courses that are offered by community colleges, the college will need to contact the Certification Program at (609) 633-9171 and schedule an appointment so that they can show their proposed lesson plans. After approval, the Certification Program will then start a site visitation to check the school’s classroom appropriateness, and its compliance with the other rules and regulations. After the school receive its final approval, it will then need to submit a completed Approval of a NATCEP application form, 2 copies of its schedules, the contract with its clinical site, and a check for $75 – which is made payable to the NJDOH .

After getting the approval for NATCEP, the Department of Health will then notify PSI, which is the state-approved independent testing company that provides support in the administration, scoring, and the release of the results of the NATCEP. The PSI will then give the school an approval stamp, a school code, and a beginning supply of application forms and nurse aide candidate handbooks.
