One of the most famous courses in the field of health today is nursing assistants. The demand for nurse aides in the United States has increased greatly. Because of this demand a lot of people are now asking how to become a CNA or as they are commonly known in Vermont – licensed nurse assistants.

A person can only work as an LNA if he is properly certified or has been licensed. According to the law, only those who have successfully met the federal and state training and testing requirements and have gained entry into the Nurse Aide Registry can get a license. The state follows the guidelines stated in the OBRA which requires all aspiring candidates to receive proper training and pass the certification exam.

When looking for a training program to enroll into you just have to make sure that the one you choose is approved by the Board of Nursing or the Department of Health. This will guarantee that your training will be proper and that you will be allowed to take the certification exam later on. Most training programs cost $500 to $1,000. If you have some financial issues there are also a lot of institutions out there that offer cheaper training costs, and some of them are even free.

LNA training in Vermont consists of 75 hours of lectures and 30 hours of supervised clinical practice. Students are handled by a Registered Nurse while they are in the clinical program. They will be taught all they will need to know about how to become a competent licensed nurse assistant.

Nursing students and graduates as well as individuals who were able to complete a CNA program from another state can also apply for the certification exam. The state’s NNAAP exam is conducted by Pearson VUE. It is a two part exam that consists of a written/oral test and a practical skills evaluation. Candidates must pass both tests to gain entry into the Nurse Aide Registry and become LNAs. If you pass both tests your name will be added to NAR where it will remain there for 2 years. You are allowed to work in any nursing facility as long as your name is on the NAR. To keep your eligibility to work as a nurse assistant, you must renew your license every 2 years.  The state requires LNAs to complete at least 400 hours of work as a paid LNA to qualify for renewal.

If you are a nurse aide with an active certification from a different state, Vermont can offer you reciprocity so that you can still practice your profession.
