Training to become a nursing aide can be one of the best career choices that you can make. Nursing aides are in demand throughout the United States. Compared to other careers, the process of becoming a nursing aide is faster and quicker – not to mention cheaper.
Nursing Aide Training
Enrolling in a state-approved training program is the first step in becoming a nursing aide. It’s important that nursing aide candidates are competent in what they do and know how to meet the individual needs of each patient.
Approved training programs consist of 65 hours of lectures and lab work and 55 hours of clinical practice. All programs are required to last at least 4 weeks. During the practical training portion of the training, students are handled by highly qualified CNA Instructors. Students are taught important skills and concepts such as infection control, emergency care, communication techniques, patients’ rights and independence, and many more.

Training Fees
A person who is already working in a Medicaid/Medicare facility prior to enrolling in a training program may not be charged for training fees. All charges must be paid by the hiring employer; this includes payment for the State Exam.
If a state-approved nursing facility offers a nursing aide employment within 12 months after getting certified, the first nursing facility to offer employment is required to reimburse the candidate for the costs incurred in completing a training program and the competency exam. That is why it is important for the nursing aide to keep all original receipts.
Competency Evaluation Exam (State Exam)
The State Exam was designed to test the competency of nursing aides in terms of both knowledge and skills. Both tests are conducted on the same day at a Regional Testing Center. Candidates must pass both tests to get into the Nurse Aide Registry. Once the candidate is entered into the NAR, he or she will be given a CNA certificate and will be allowed to work as a long-term nursing aide.
Princeton is the county seat of Mercer County. It is included in the Bluefield, WV-VA micropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, their total population had reached up to a total of 6,432. They had a population density of 2,127.6/sq mile. Princeton has a total land area of 5 square miles and a water area of only 0.1 square mile.

Most of the programs found in the state can be completed in a matter of a few weeks. You just have to make sure that the program you select is approved by the state. Programs will offer classes on the fundamental of nursing skills and care and you will learn the basics of working in a health care facility. You are going to be required to finish a set of hours (currently set at 30 hours of class instruction and 75 hours of clinical practice), before you can take the certification exams.
The license exams are handled by the Ivy Tech Community College. Their exams are made up of two parts, a written and a skills demonstration. In order to get your name entered in the state’s registry, you will need to pass both parts of the exam. The ISDH Registry requires all nurse aide licensees to work at least 8 hours for each two year time period at a licensed health care facility in order to remain in good standing.
