The completion of a state-approved training program is an initial step in becoming a nursing assistant. By completing a training program, you will become eligible to apply for the state’s license exams. You cannot work in Florida as a CNA if you do not have one. To receive your certification to become a nursing assistant in the state of Florida you need to attend a program consisting of 75 hours of classroom teaching and 100 hours of practice in a clinical setting.
Depending on the program you select, it will take you about 6 months, more or less, to complete your training. You can then submit your application form along with the other documents like transcript of records, ID photo, passport size pictures, fingerprint cards, and the fees for the background checks. If you meet the other requirements such as a background check, at least 18 years old, have basic competency in reading and writing, and have completed the certification training you become eligible to take the certification exam.
Failing the background checks will mean that you will not be allowed to practice your chosen profession in this state. This rule also goes the same for those nurse aides from other states who wish to work here. Records such as theft, malpractice, negligence, offenses involving violence or drugs, or patient abuse may be used to reject your application. Failing in these checks will also not make you eligible for any refunds. Nursing assistants that are planning on working in Florida through endorsement are required to have an active license when they apply. Since they are already holders of a license, they will no longer be required to take this state license exam. They will only be required to submit a copy of their certification, exam results, and the results for the background checks.
