Training to become a CNA is one of the best ways to start a career in the field of health in Pennsylvania. Since nursing assistants are entry-level healthcare workers, their training is quicker compared to other careers such as nurses. Students will also be trained in performing basic nursing procedures such as vital signs taking, and how to assist in the residents’ daily activities such as bathing, dressing, toileting, eating, exercising, and ambulating.

At the end of the program, the students will be given the application forms for the CNA exams. Taking the exams is the final step in becoming a full-fledged nursing assistant. The exam consists of a written (oral) exam and a practical skills test, which are conducted on the same day. If a candidate is able to pass both exams, then his name will be entered into the Nurse Aide Registry and will be given a Registry Card.

You can show this card to an employer to prove that you are a certified nursing assistant. However, every employer is still required to verify each applicant’s credentials before hiring. Your registration to the Nurse Aide Registry will only be valid for two years. Within that time you must work for at least 8 hours as a paid nurse aide while under the supervision of a registered nurse to qualify for re-certification.
