The state of Connecticut does not allow those who have not yet receive the proper instructions to take care of patients or residents as a nursing aide in any healthcare facility. It is clearly stated in the rules that the state must initiate and maintain CNA training and evaluation programs. This is for the purpose of improving the quality of care in different healthcare facilities and help to define the standards of practice for nurse aides.
According to the rules, a nurse aide training course should provide its students at least 100 hours of theoretical lessons and should be coordinated by a registered nurse with at least 2 years of experience. Before the students are allowed to handle patients/residents they must have 16 hours of skills training and education about infection control, therapeutic communications, resident’s individuality and rights, and safety and emergency protocols. They should be taught in the concepts on the Fundamentals of Nursing as well as trained on 25 basic nursing competency skills. Most training programs will last from 2-6 months.
All of the things that they will learn will be tested when they take on the state’s competency examinations. The most important requirements to become eligible for the exams are the completion of a training program and passing the background checks. Other requirements include submitting the necessary documents and the payment for the fees, and getting cleared for any communicable diseases. Once accepted and listed on the registry, your license will be valid for the next 2 years.
