In order to become a nursing assistant, you will need to undergo proper training. It is very important that when you handle your patients, you will know how to properly take care of them. This is why the state requires all aspiring certified nurse aides to enroll in a 180 hour training program. These programs will be composed of classroom lectures and clinical exposure. It will take a few weeks to complete a program. To be enrolled in a certified nursing assistant, the applicant must first be of legal age and had finished the 9th grade. Once enrolled, they will have to spend a specific number of hours on lectures and skills training before they can finish the program. Once they finish, they will be allowed to work in a nursing facility, like a nursing home, for a couple months even if you are not yet certified.
Once you are through with your training, you will be able to apply for the license exams. The license exams for this state are composed of a written and a skills demonstration. You will need to pass all of the tests in order to get your name entered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. Only those CNAs whose names are on the registry will be allowed to work in a nursing facility for more than 4 months. The licenses in this state need to be renewed every two years. If you wish to become eligible for renewal, you must be able to work for at least 8 hours within that time. Your hours will only be credited if you were able to work during that time under the supervision of a registered nurse.
