Completing a state-certified CNA training course is one of the basic necessities to become a nurse aide. Each of the courses has its own set of requirements for enrollment. There are also those requirements that have been set up by the state. To be accepted in a course, the applicant must be:
1. At least 18 years old when he/she applies to enroll. (an exception is if enrolled in high school occupational class)
2. Must not be on the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Employment Disqualification List.
3. Must not have any records that prevent him/her from working as a nurse aide in a healthcare facility in the state.
There are certain cases where a name on the EDL was removed. For those who committed abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of property while working as a nurse aide are still not allowed to work. This is because once your name is entered on the EDL; it will also include a “federal indicator”. According to the Federal regulations, a worker who has been found guilty of the mentioned offenses will not be allowed to work in a Medicaid/Medicare facility.
Those who finish a training program can schedule a test date for the two part competency exams. Both parts must be passed to be officially certified and eligible to be hired long-term by care facilities as a certified nursing assistant. After being licensed you will need to renew your status in the registry every 2 years.
