The only way for you to be able to work as a nursing aide in the state of Kentucky is if your name is entered in the registry. To be listed there you must have taken an approved training course and passed the certification exams. Before you are able to take the exams, there are several requirements that you will have to meet. One of the most important steps in becoming a nursing assistant is being able to graduate from a state-approved training program. These programs are offered by different institutions such as colleges, high schools, and select healthcare centers. Keep in mind that each of these facilities has different requirements to be accepted.
Once you are through with your training, the next step is to apply for the exams. You will need to submit the necessary application form and documents. Examples of such documents include fingerprint cards, government issued ID, TB test results, immunization records, as well as the results for your background checks. The exams will be composed of both a written and a practical part. You will have to pass the two exams and notified for your name to be entered in the registry. Once added to the registry you will be eligible to work for up to 24 months. If you do not work at least 8 hours with 24 months you will lose your listed status and may have to retake the certification exams.
