The rules of this state required that those aspiring to become a nursing assistant must undergo proper education and training. CNA classes must be authorized and approved by the state. Currently course must offer a set amount of hourly instruction that includes clinical practice and class instruction.
After completing training, students must then be tested by a standardized competency exam. If they pass the exams, their name will be then entered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. If the candidate wishes to become eligible for work, he/she must maintain this status. The Department of Community Health had placed the Georgia Medical Health Foundation, a private contractor, to oversee to all of those. This is done in order to improve the quality of care rendered to the patients by nursing assistants.
Nurse aide from other states are also welcome to work in this state by applying for reciprocity. When they apply they must have a valid license status and a good relationship with their state. Like all other applicants, they will also be required to submit the results for their background checks. These background checks will be done at both federal and state levels.
Nursing assistant licenses for this state must be renewed every 2 years. When renewing, the applicant must send in the appropriate recertification forms. You can get a copy of the forms at http://gacnas.org/pages/view/certification. The Federal Regulations also state that the applicant must have at least worked for 8 hours with pay within 2 years. If you fail to renew your license for more than 3 years from its last valid status, you will be required to undergo retraining by enrolling in another NATP and take the license exams afterwards.
