Before you will be allowed to handle the patients as a nursing assistant, you must first receive the proper training from a state-approved training program. Your training will be composed of 75 hours of lectures and 100 hours of skills training. Depending on the program you choose, it will take you about 6 months to complete your training. You will also get to experience what it is really like to work with actual patients and work in a clinical area. You will be placed under the supervision of a healthcare team member when you are there.
After you complete the training program, you can then apply for the license exams for this state. This is a must step since you cannot find any work as a nurse aide if your name is not in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. To get your license, you will have to pass all the exams. Since there is no partial passing for this exam, if you fail one test, you must retake all of them again. If you do pass, you will receive a notice and your certification 14 days after you take the exams. This of course will depend on the completeness of the documents you submitted during your application.
