The only way you can find work as a nursing assistant in the state of Hawaii is if you get a CNA license. You can get a license if your name is entered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry after completing a training programs and passing the license exams. Before you can take the exams, you must comply with the different requirements of the state. Out of the different requirements, the most important among them are finishing a certification training course and passing the background checks. Without these two, you will not become able to take the exams. During your class instruction you must have at least 70 hours’ worth of lectures on the basics and at least 30 hours of clinical experience duty. You can then apply to try and take the license examination to receive your certification. The examination will usually last up to 5 1/2 hours and is composed of an oral, a written and a practical application part.
Most of the license exams in this state are conducted by Prometric. In the first part of their tests, the students will be given 90 minutes to answer 60 questions which will already include the pretest questions. These questions will all be multiple-choice and will cover the three different domains. These domains will be about the different roles of a nursing assistant, the ways to promote the patient’s safety, and the ways to promote functioning and health of the patient. In the second part of the license exams, the applicants will be given a simple scenario where they will have to perform 5 randomly selected nursing skills in front of a Nurse Aide Evaluator. The skills will be selected by a computer from a list of 22 nursing skills. To pass this exam, the applicant must be able to perform all the skills satisfactorily by performing each skills checkpoints. The license exams usually take an average of 5 ½ hours to complete. You will immediately know if you have passed the exams or not. If you failed, you will be able to reapply for the exams after 30 days.
