One of the most important requirements in becoming a nursing assistant is finishing a CNA course. The course has to be approved by the state so that you can apply for the license exams afterwards. You can find that there are plenty of institutions like colleges and community training centers that offer such courses. According to the latest list of the Department of Public Health, there are over 155 courses that are certified.
For a program to be certified, it must offer a minimum of 100 hours of training, where a registered nurse with at least 2 years of experience coordinates it. It must allow its students to gain clinical experiences when they have at least 16 hours of skills training and have learn about infection control, resident’s rights or independence, and the different safety and emergency protocol. It must educate its students on the fundamentals of nursing and train them in 25 basic competency skills.
After the completion of their training, they will be able to apply for the license exams. LPNs and RNs are also welcomed to apply, as well as psychologists and gerontologists. Nurse aide license holders from other states may apply for reciprocity if they wish to practice in the state. They will no longer be required to take this state’s license exams.
