The state requires that you complete a certification program if you want to have a long career in the medical field as a nursing aide. There are different requirements that you must meet before you can become a CNA. Among the first steps is the completion of a training program.
The programs that are approved by the GMCF offer their students 85 hours of training and take an average of 6 months to finish the training. Their training is composed of labs, clinical rotations, and classroom lectures. Some of the tasks you will be practicing during training are: checking vital signs, helping to feed patients, helping to dress patients, toileting, performing range of motion exercise, transferring and transporting, infection control, and communication skills.
When you are through with the training, you next task is to apply for the license exams. When you apply, you will need to submit the completed application form, transcripts or high school diploma, fingerprint cards for the background checks, and the payment for the different fees. You will also be required to undergo physical exams and tests to make sure that you do not have any communicable disease.
If you are already working in a nursing facility like a nursing home as a nursing aide, you are required to undergo training and pass the license exams within 4 months from the start of your work. You will not be allowed to continue to work if you fail to comply with this.
