In order to get your nursing assistant certification in the state of Alaska it is necessary to have taken a state approved training program. The program needs to offer a total of 140 hours of training including 60 hours of classroom instruction, and 80 hours of practical experience in a clinical setting. When you take your classes you’ll receive skills practice utilizing a variety of different tasks such as: measuring & recording vital signs (respiration, blood pressure pulse, catheter care, transporting residents, range of motion exercises, CPR, Heimlich Maneuver, housekeeping, infection control procedures, safety protocols, assisting with bathing, nourishment, and recording skills.
Those who complete the course must sign up and pass the license exam in 24 months or need to retake the program. The exams are two part, a written or oral test, and a physical skills demonstration. The applicant must pass both parts in order to qualify for certification.
