There are several things that you will need to do before you will be allowed to work in a CNA in a nursing home. One of the first things that you need to do is to find a program to enroll in. Before you enroll, you should make sure that the program is certified by the state. Only those who received their training from a state-approved program will become eligible to apply for the license exams.
These programs are mandated by the state to offer in their curriculum 90 hours of training, which will be divided into classroom lectures, skills training, and clinical duties. You will learn all about different concepts such as infection control and prevention, the different roles of a nursing assistant, how to properly assist in the patient’s mobility, maintain the patient’s hygiene, and even how to promote their health.
After you completed all of those you can then send in your application to the board. You will also need to send in important documents such as fingerprint cards, ID photo, TB test results and your immunization records, and one of the most important—the results of your federal and state criminal background checks. Like many other U.S states, the only way for you to work as a certified nursing assistant is if your name is listed in the registry. Your name will only be listed if you have taken and passed the state exams. Your license will expire every two years on the last day of your birth month. To renew it, you can either go to the internet or send them a form of your renewal before the expiration date. You can call the registry at (785) 296-6877 to speak with someone about the recent requirements and ask any questions you have pertaining to state licensure.
