The Montana Nursing Assistant Registry lists the names of individuals who have acquired a certification as a nursing assistant from the state. The website however, does not show any criminal background information with regards to the said candidates and you may have to check on other departments to see whether they have criminal convictions or not. You can visit the Office of Inspector General to see which candidates are ineligible for work as a CNA in the state of Montana and also the Montana Correctional Offender Network.

As of January 2012, the state has ceased producing any paper certificate for successful candidates who have passed the certification exams for nursing assistants. Hence, anyone who is interested to learn about their certification status or to renew it can do so by logging in to the registry. No paper notifications will also be sent for certificate renewals. The renewal of CNA certifications are to be done before or during the date of the expiration of the certification. The form can be downloaded directly from the website and needs to be filled out by both the worker and his or her current employer.
If the expiration date of your certification has already lapsed, you can only be entered into the registry again by retaking a nurse aide training program or by taking the certification exam again. The exam is conducted by Headmaster and you will need to contact them at their website to request for an application to test. You can also apply for reciprocity in the state of Montana by filling out the appropriate form and sending the registry a copy of your certification from another state. It may take several weeks before your application can be approved. You can read more about current Montana nurse aide requirements here.
In the registry, you can look up a nursing assistant by keying in their name or their license number. You can also do a random search by entering a partial name and you can have a list of nursing assistants who have the same or similar name on your screen. You can then select from the said list which candidate you are looking for. Once you have chosen the appropriate candidate, you can click on their name and you will get a result showing information with regard to the applicant. You will be able to see personal information such as contact number and address, as well as the status of their certification and their license type. You can also see if there had been any disciplinary action which has been imposed on the employee.
You can also look for a particular worker in the registry by keying in a zip code, city, or county. The results will give you several nurse aides who are currently living within the location. The CNA verification and lookup system was established to provide employers with an easier method to ascertain whether a candidate or applicant is eligible for hiring. This way, they can easily get the information that they are looking for without having to personally go to the Nursing Board.
