The first step in becoming a nursing assistant in this state is to learn the basic nursing skills and concepts. To ensure that your training will be of good quality, you must only enroll in a program that is approved by the state. CNA training program can be found almost all over the state since there are a variety of educational facilities that offer their training.
If you have already enrolled in a nursing or nursing-related course, you can still become eligible to take the license exams. What is important is that during your training, you have learned the Fundamentals of Nursing and had accumulated enough clinical hours, which should be equivalent to or greater than 75 hours. If you were trained outside of the state, then the board will have to check and see if you have met the requirements. You can submit an application to take the exams once you’ve completed your schooling.
Your school may be able to help you schedule a time to take the exams once you have completed their training regimen. You can also schedule a test location with Ivy Tech Community College by calling 317-917-5948. In addition you can call the Indiana State Department of Health Division of Long Term Care at (317) 233-7442 to help assist you with any questions you may have about current qualification required. Certified nursing assistant license holders from different states are welcome to apply for reciprocity. When applying, they must have a valid license or an active nursing assistant status in their state’s registry. Since they will also be required to pass the background checks, they should also have a good relationship with their state.
