The first requirement that you will need to do in becoming a nursing assistant is to enroll in and graduate from a state-approved training program. These programs are open to anyone who wants to have a career opportunity in the medical field as a nurse aide. You will be spending at total of 90 hours of training, which will be divided into lectures and clinical experiences. Depending on the program you enroll in, it will take you from 8 to 13 weeks to graduate from the program. After you complete your training, you can then apply for the license exams.
Taking the license exams is an important step since it is the only way for you to get your name entered in the state’s Nurse Aide Registry. To do so, you will need to pass both the written/oral exam and the skills demonstration. You can learn more about the requirements of the license exams by contacting the Kansas Nurse Aide Registry at (785) 296-6877. Once your name is in the Registry, you will need to maintain that status to remain eligible to apply for the exams. Certified nurse aide licenses in this state need to be renewed every two years. You can get a free renewal if you were able to work for at least 8 hours with pay during that time. The expiry date for the license is the last day of the holder’s birth month.
