Nurse aides in this state are certified by the Georgia Medical Care Foundation. Before they are given their license/certification, there are several different requirements that they must comply with. The first requirement is the completion of a certified Nursing Aide Training Program. This rule was made for the purpose of improving patient care by requiring nursing aide candidates to undergo proper training and education before they handle patients.
As nursing aide students, they must complete 85 hours of training where at least 24 hours of it is allocated to clinical rotations. Before they are presented to the clinical area, the students must have classroom lectures and experience lab rotations. Failing to get a 100% rating in the lab rotations will prevent the student from proceeding. During they will be trained in different nursing skills such as assisting in ROM exercises, feeding, bathing, dressing, ambulating, taking vital signs, and different emergency procedures.
When they complete their training, they can then take on the license exams. The license exams for this state are composed of a written and skills evaluation. There are also cases where the written exams are replaced with oral examinations. They must pass the two parts of the license exams to get their license. Each applicant is allowed to fail the exams only up to three times. If he/she fails for the third time he/she must retake a state-approved training program.
