One of the best ways to start a career in the field of health is to become a certified nursing aide. Nursing aides in Utah make about $9 – $16 an hour depending on the working place. In most cases the salary is above $13. Compared to other career choices, training to become a nursing aide is quicker and more affordable.
To be a nursing aide in Utah you must first be at least 16 years old and be able to understand and speak English. This will be one of the most common requirements to get enrolled into a state-approved program. Nursing aide training in the state consists of 50 hours of lectures and 30 hours of supervised clinical practice. Those who are enrolled in a facility-based program are allowed to perform some tasks and functions of a certified nursing aide. However, they will only have 4 months from the start of their work to get certified.
Completing a state-approved program will make you eligible to apply for the certification exam. You can only work in Utah if your name is on the Nurse Aide Registry and you have an active certification. Registered nurses, LPNs, and nursing students and graduates are also allowed to apply for the CNA certification exam.
The certification exam in this state is handled by Headmaster. The exam consists of a written and audio test and a skills evaluation. Both of the tests are given taken at the same time at testing centers throughout the state. To get certified, candidates must pass both tests.
Each candidate is given 3 attempts to pass. If a candidate fails, he or she can immediately reapply and reschedule to take the test that he or she failed. If a candidate fails his or her 3rd attempt, he or she will be required to undergo retraining.
You can go to www.utahcna.com and get a copy of the Candidate Handbook. This handbook contains detailed information regarding the certification exam. The website also has a practice test that you can take to help you prepare of the written portion of the exam.
