There are a lot of people now who would like to get a CNA certification in Indiana. This is due to the rise in the demand for health workers as the shortage for nurses continue each year. A career in the healthcare field can be one of the best preparations that one can have if he or she wants to gain exposure in the field without having to spend much. Those who would like to work as nursing assistants in Indiana should be able to finish a training course as well as pass the examinations in order to be entered into their registry. This way they would be able to work as certified nursing assistants in health care settings.
The nurse aide training program that one should attend must be one that has passed the requirements of the state. They should be approved by the state and the training should be done under the supervision of qualified health personnel. The required hours of the training is at least 30 hours of classroom teaching as well as 75 hours of practical training in a nursing facility.
Those who have undergone sufficient credits in their nursing studies are also qualified to apply for nurse assistant certification. Training that is acquired from another state can also be credited by the board if it includes the total hours of classroom and practical training that is required by Indiana. One can also apply for reciprocity if he or she already has a certification from another state and the applicant is in good standing on that state. He would have to go through the CNA exams conducted by Indiana though and he should also pass the criminal background check. What is removed from the requirements if the need to undergo the training.
After training one can now challenge the state examinations. One should request for a Final Examination Application form first and then submit that to the board. The exam covers both a written or oral exam as well as practical demonstrations of nurse aide skills. The test is conducted by the Ivy Tech Community College and it is where one should submit the fees for the test.
The result of the exam would not be published unless your background would return without any disqualifying circumstances such as convictions for particular felonies. Those who are applying for reciprocity should not be guilty for such acts as abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of a patient’s property. There are also crimes which would definitely remove all your chances of becoming a certified nursing assistant in Indiana. You can contact the Indiana Nurse Aide Registry for further details about qualifying for licensure in the state.
If your background check comes out well, your name would then be included in the nurse aide registry which is maintained by the Indiana State Department of Health. The license would have to be renewed every 2 years with at least 8 hours of paid work as a nurse aid during the intervening time. They should also at least have worked for health care, home health agencies or on a hospice during that period.
